SMALL STREAM FISHING

The state of Maine is blessed with thousands of miles of streams that are teeming with native and wild trout. We have some of the last remaining strong holds of pure brook trout genetics. These remote watersheds have never been stocked with hatchery fish, and the trout that reside here are among the most beautiful specimens found anywhere in the world. With little to no fishing pressure, you can expect eager trout that readily take dry flies. What these fish lack in size, they make up for with aggressive takes and a spunky fight! We have extensive knowledge of the western Maine backcountry. Let us guide you to some of the most peaceful, scenic fishing spots you have ever laid eyes on.

Smallmouth Bass

The Kennebec and Androscoggin Rivers offer world class angling opportunities for catching smallmouth bass on the fly. Earlier in the season, when bass are in pre-spawn mode, is a great time to target larger fish as they bulk up on calories in anticipation of their yearly ritual. During the month of May, we can fish for trout and salmon in the upper reaches of the river during the morning, and fish for bass on the lower sections in the afternoon. Once the dog days of summer hit, we switch our focus to primarily bass fishing. This time of year, the fishing can be fast and furious. These trips are conducted from either a drift boat or from the comfort of our custom built jet Jon boat. If you've never experienced the thrill of a jumping smallmouth on the end of your line, we encourage you to give it a try. These hard fighting fish do not dissappoint!

OUR HOME WATERS:

Kennebec River

Originating from the east outlet of Moosehead Lake, the Kennebec River flows 150 miles south to its confluence with the Androscoggin, before dumping into the Atlantic Ocean. Once home to massive runs of Atlantic Salmon, the presence of 6 tailwater dams has turned this river into an exceptional fishery for land locked salmon, brown and rainbow trout. Later in the summer when day time water temps are a bit warm for trout, the smallmouth bass fishing can be fast and furious. With a large variety of mayfly, caddis, and stonefly hatches that move up river as the season progresses, this river offers some of the best dry fly fishing to be found anywhere in the east. Although wading trips are available for the Kennebec, we recommend fishing from a drift boat as this is a large river with limited wading at medium to high flows.

West Branch Penobscot River

Trophy land locked salmon fishing is the name of the game on the "Westy". Although there are a few resident brookies in the river, the upper section is managed for trophy salmon with a size and bag limit of one fish over 26 inches! The caddis hatches on the West Branch can only be described with one word.....EPIC! Hooking one of these aggressive fish is like having a torpedo hooked  to the end of your line. Landlocked salmon love to jump and have been known to clear the water surface in excess of four feet as you try to wrestle them to the boat. Are you a thrill seeker? Spend an extra day with one of the local rafting companies paddling through the rivers many class V rapids. Drift boat trips start at Big Eddy Campground and take you through some of the most productive salmon pools on the river, interspersed with class 2 and light class 3 whitewater. Due to its remote location, we require a minimum 2 day booking on the "Westy". This is a drift boat only trip, since the wading options are limited even at the lowest of flows. Spots fill up quick on this one, so you'll want to book as early as possible.

Rangeley Region

  1. Steeped in angling history, the Rangeley Region has been a popular vacation spot for fly fishing enthusiasts for over a century...and for good reason. Fed by cold mountain streams originating near the Canadian border, the rivers of Western Maine are home to some of the largest wild, native brook trout found anywhere in the U.S. These waters also hold robust populations of land locked atlantic salmon that are eager to take a fly. There is a large number of lodging options in the area, from fully modern to some of the oldest sporting camps still in existence. We host rangeley region fly fishing adventures on Upper Dam Pool, the Rapid River, the Rangeley River, and the Magalloway River. (Upper Dam and Rapid River trips are full day only)
